Steeped spice, dark cherry and orange, poured steaming into a warmed glass

Some drinks are made for the fridge. Hearth & Stone, our first-ever non-alcoholic mulled wine cocktail, is made for the stovetop.

Simmer Edenvale Non-Alcoholic Hearth Mulled Wine with fresh ginger, orange peel and star anise, and the citrus and red currant character already in the bottle deepens into something warmer and spicier. A splash of dark cherry syrup and lemon juice keeps the sweetness in check, and a fine grating of nutmeg finishes each glass before it reaches the table.

This moreish mocktail recipe is built for slow evenings when you are wrapped up in your favourite blanket, though it holds up just as well over ice once the nights start to warm up. Shop Hearth Mulled Wine now to make your own.

What Is a Mulled Wine Mocktail?

A mulled wine mocktail is a warm, spiced drink made by gently heating a non-alcoholic mulled wine with citrus, fresh spice and a touch of sweetness, then straining it into a glass. Hearth & Stone builds on that idea using Edenvale Non-Alcoholic Hearth Mulled Wine as the base, with fresh ginger, orange and dark cherry added for extra depth.

Ingredients

Preparation time: 5 minutes prep, 15 minutes cook

  • 200ml Edenvale Non-Alcoholic Hearth Mulled Wine
  • 80ml fresh orange juice (about 1 large orange)
  • 30ml dark cherry syrup (or pomegranate juice)
  • 20ml fresh lemon juice
  • 3 slices fresh ginger, about 5mm thick
  • 1 wide strip of orange peel
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 star anise
  • A pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
  • To garnish: 2 orange slices, 2 star anise, 2 cinnamon sticks

Method

4 steps

  1. Combine and warm

Add the Hearth Mulled Wine, orange juice, cherry syrup, lemon juice, ginger, orange peel, cinnamon stick and star anise to a small saucepan over low-medium heat. Warm gently, stirring occasionally, keeping it just below a simmer so the spice aromas stay in the pot rather than the air.

  2. Steep

Take the pan off the heat, put the lid on and leave it for 5 minutes. This gives the ginger and orange peel time to fully flavour the wine.

  3. Strain and serve

Strain through a fine sieve into two warmed heatproof glasses, discarding the solids, then finish each glass with a light grating of fresh nutmeg.

  4. Garnish

Rest a cinnamon stick against the rim of each glass, float an orange slice on top and set a star anise on the orange slice. Serve immediately while hot.

Spice Mocktail Preparation and Serving Tips

  • Warm the glasses first: fill them with boiling water for 30 seconds, then tip it out before pouring. It stops thin glassware cracking from the heat and keeps the drink hot for longer.
  • No dark cherry syrup on hand? Pomegranate juice gives a similar depth with a slightly tarter finish.
  • For a stronger ginger note, grate it instead of slicing, then strain well to catch the fine pulp.
  • Making it for a crowd: multiply the recipe and hold it on low in a slow cooker for up to 2 hours, then let guests help themselves.
  • Naturally vegan: there's no dairy, honey or egg white in this recipe, so it suits a vegan table without any substitutions.
  • Prefer it cold? Pour it over a large ice cube in a rocks glass instead of heating it, for a lighter, more refreshing take on the same spice profile.

Why You'll Love This Spiced Mocktail

  • A genuine stovetop ritual, not just a mixed drink, something to make slowly rather than grab from the fridge.
  • Built on a wine that has already picked up multiple medals on the 2025 show circuit, so the base is doing real work before the spices go in.
  • Zero standard drinks and less than 0.5% ABV, so it fits a mindful evening as easily as a dry one.
  • Scales up in minutes for a crowd, with the slow-cooker method above.
  • Works hot or cold, so it is not a one-season drink.

Spiced Mocktail FAQs

Can I make this mulled wine non-alcoholic recipe ahead of time?

Yes. Make the base up to a day ahead, cool it, then refrigerate it in a covered container. Reheat gently in a saucepan over low heat until steaming, then strain and garnish as usual.

What's a good substitute for dark cherry syrup?

Pomegranate juice is the easiest swap and gives a slightly tarter finish. A spoonful of good-quality morello cherry jam, stirred through until it dissolves, works too.

Can I serve Hearth & Stone cold?

Yes. Skip the stovetop step, pour the mixed ingredients over a large ice cube in a rocks glass, and garnish as you would the hot version. It's lighter, but keeps the same spice profile.

Is this spiced mocktail vegan?

Yes. Every ingredient to this recipe, including the Hearth Mulled Wine base, is plant-derived, so no substitutions are needed.
